Immunity Challenge #5 - "New Buddies". Our host thought it was time for better integration of the players so he established teams with survivors from each of the original tribes. I was paired with Diane, Jim with Moe and Scott with Mark. I am so thankful that I was able to work with Diane as this challenge required more graphics work at which I have minimal skills. The task was to "create a 3D version of the Island of Castillo". Well, I took this literally ( well almost, I didn't think that we would have to build a physical model) and suggested to Diane that we needed something like Bryce to do this. She immediately latched on to this based on a past infatuation with the product. Her story is probably more illuminating. Diane quickly obtained an up to date copy of Bryce, proceeded with a quick self-education and developed the first 3-D images of Castillo. She continued to refine the image and I did what I could to add labels to the various "hot spots" on the island. When we were finished I felt that we has an awesome model/map. The judging of the 2 submittals (Jim and Moe did not submit a map) went a little differently than I had expected. In the final result the score was 525 points to 523 points with Diane and I squeaking past Mark and Scott. You can see the detail of the event and scoring here > Immunity #5
A double Tribal Council on the 7th & 8th of December followed the completion of the map making challenge. Moe was voted off in the first council and Scott in the second. This left me as the only survivor from the iOftheTiger tribe (Diane and I had immunity in both votes). The winner and two runners up from the previous round were told to select a team-mate from their formerly opposing team. Still not receiving mail from Bill, it took me a while to find out that I had been selected by John Gebhardt, who I knew mainly as the graphics genius behind the red apple and sword Cybernaut logo. Our task was to make a "3D map" of Castillo using a hand-drawn map for guidance.
John and I both knew about Bryce and so set about creating a 3D model of Castillo and making it into a map. Moe and Jim didn't submit anything. John and I won by a small margin and were both given immunity. An unprecedented double vote was announced and Moe and Scott both left Castillo.
My account of using Bryce to create the map has been submitted to the MacGuild as an article for publication.
