Needs More Chlorine
Praise
I liked the architecture and design of the builds' interiors. The wide open central area will be enjoyed by snipers and the like quite a bit. The architecture is great strictly from a visual design point of view.
This map is well constructed, with a lot of interesting areas. The water streets added some interesting mood to the map. Sniper areas were nice, and weapon and ammo regeneration was excellent.
The architecture is great, as is the use of the toxin effect.
The native population makes this map the best for solo or co-operatve mayhem.
I enjoyed this map. I like the atmosphere with the map, sounds, scenery and music. I thought the game was fast paced with lots of action. Good choices of enemies that made the game very challenging. I thought overall the game did in fact engage the player and I also thought the weapons and ammo placement was very good.
Many of the individual rooms are quite pretty, and would look good in a single-player level.
If I were to do netplay, this would be a more enjoyable map than Small Carnage Garden, but not quite as enjoyable as Stonehenge. This is mainly due to the openess of this map. I thought the Architecture and Atmosphere were perfect. I especially liked the fast pace of the music. Seemed very appropriate for a netmap. If I recall, this is the same music as the EMR level GAT Out of Hell. Also seems to be plenty of ammo and weapons. Having the Piranha in the water was smart, as that keeps a player from hiding there.
Suggestions for Improvement
The design is very bad for a net level, although good for a solo level. There isn't any 'flow' to the design as it's all hard edges and corners, meaning that people are likely to get trapped in a spot while running rampant. With only one way out of each building and limited space in each (decent amount, only for one player) it makes the only good combat field the area that's deep enough to force the player to swim. There's no good places to fight overall, making it strictly snipers or bust, and there aren't any sniper roosts.
As a net map, this map suffers the same problems as Carnage Garden in that it is difficult to find someone to kill, especially if you are only playing with 2 players. The map is extensive and large, you can spend a lot of time looking for a player that may be hiding. Perhaps some Lua radars would help eliminate this problem.
The map is murderous at the start: I start it up, run like mad, get killed, repeat... . I'd like it to start slower, and ramp up.
The GATs are overpowered for the level, and are a constant distraction. The geometry isn’t that good for map flow – I kept expecting to be able to go places that I couldn’t.
I knocked the map down overall for two reasons. One is that it is not quite as open as I would like. As for the second reason, this map does not seem to have any recharge canisters at all. I would think this would lead to an awful lot of dying considering all the Spewies and the Hover Troopers, not to mention the other players. It seems to me that the map would be more fun with some canisters scattered about.
